Eleanor Spalding:

Eleanor Spalding is an artist and freelance costume maker based in Dorset and London.
She has recently returned to Dorset and immersed herself in the stunning vistas of the Purbeck landscape which have become a huge inspiration to her art practice.
Eleanor makes most of her work ‘en plein air’ enjoying the energetic, immediate and visceral quality it brings to her work. Her drawings evoke the atmosphere of the Dorset landscape through expressive mark making and the use of rich, natural colours. She often explores the use of white space, allowing the landscape to appear like an explosion out of the frame. Her artwork invites the viewer to use their imagination and personal emotional response to interpret their vision of the contemporary landscapes.
After graduating in Fashion Design from Edinburgh College of Art in 2007 she began a career within the Costume department for Film and TV. Eleanor was awarded a position on the BBC's 'Visions' Design Trainee Scheme as a Costume Design Trainee. During her career she has progressed into various positions within the costume department coming to focus on costume cutting, making and embellishment with an emphasis on period detailing. In latter years Eleanor has undertaken a range of commissions for various artists, utilising her skills in embroidery, fabric construction and illustration and in 2016 she launched her own accessories company Belle Peake.
