Signed Christian Voulethe, oil on canvas, 33x53 cm.
PROVENANCE: The artist's family It sometimes happens that a larger collection of works appears that suddenly sheds new light on an artistry in the shadows.
Christian Voulethe (1922-1989) is such an occasion.
After first training as a furniture architect at the Technical School in Stockholm 1942-1945, Voulethe continued into the visual arts and painting, drawing and graphics. He studied at Otte Sköld's painting school 1945-1947, at the Royal Academy of Arts 1947-1952 and via travels in Spain and France.
Christian Voulethe was influenced by his teacher Ragnar Sandberg, the Gothenburg colorist who was one of the foremost Swedish modernists of the 20th century. Sandberg's landscape depictions and often playful observations of everyday life shifted from pale pastel tones to pure color expressionism. Voulethe also devoted himself mainly to landscape depictions. The motifs in a dull, natural color scale were often taken from Mallorca or Gotland, where for many years he spent entire summers at the historic farm Petsarve in the south of the island. The abstract and slightly cubist style was compared to names such as Karl Isaksson, Jacques Villon and Paul Cézanne.
The art collection that Crafoord Stockholm can now offer was carried out by Christian Voulethe during the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. The works have never before been on the market but come from the Voulethe family itself, which we are extra happy about.
Finding individual artworks by Christian Voulethe today is rare. Therefore, a concentrate like this offers a completely unique opportunity.
