Oil/canvas signed BP lower left Mehnert, on stretcher inscribed in two lines with lead. *Bernhard P. Mehnert Chemnitz Roßmarkt 2 member of the artist group Chemnitz*, Bernhard Paul Mehnert, was dt. Painter and graphic artist (*1892 Chemnitz, †1964 Karl-Marx-Stadt), from 1906 apprenticeship as a theater painter, artistically largely self-taught, undertook study trips to Switzerland and Italy, 1919/20 briefly studied graphics at the Dresden Academy of Arts and Crafts, from 1921 freelance in Chemnitz, from 1924 member of the Chemnitz artists' group, member of the Reich Association of Visual Artists in Germany, 1946 and 1949 sent to the German Art Exhibition in Dresden, member of the Association of Visual Artists (VBK) of the GDR, active in Chemnitz/Karl-Marx-Stadt, source : Vollmer, Dressler and Eisold "Artists in the GDR". here a vertical still life with a bouquet of dahlias, slightly impasto painting with a broad brush stroke and flat colour, approx. 60 x 71 cm, in a golden profile frame (partly Fahrbfehlst.) approx. 69 x 81 cm, around 1920.
