Otmar Alt (born July 17, 1940 in Wernigerode) is a German painter, graphic artist, designer and sculptor. He represents the guiding principle that art that has to be explained is boring. In his view, art should not be elitist, but should be accessible to everyone and at all times. The viewer should work out the meaning of the works themselves. Alt, the individualist, cannot be assigned to any genre or art movement. The common characteristic of his work is the willingness to experiment.
