Today, Kylberg is best known for his radiant oil paintings in glowing hues of yellow, red, blue, and green. Yet a career in art was far from certain in his early years. He initially studied architecture in both Stockholm and Berlin, but around the turn of the previous century, he devoted himself fully to painting. Like many of the great Swedish artists of that era, he studied under Carl Wilhelmson. His breakthrough came in the 1930s—and the rest, as they say, is Swedish art history.
