Following the history of glassmaking entails a journey with many stops. In ancient Egypt, long before the birth of Jesus, glass was crafted. In the Roman Empire, the art of glass cutting was mastered, and when this knowledge reached the Bohemian monasteries in the 14th century, Venice had already succeeded in melting "Christallo." The first Roman glassblowers are said to have arrived in Sweden around 400 years after Christ, but it wasn't until well into the 20th century that Sweden made a global impact in this field. Alongside an Art Nouveau-scented vase by Emile Gallé and a couple of Italian pieces, it is indeed Swedish 20th-century glass that forms the foundation of Crafoord Auctions Lund's theme, Art Glass. This auction presents creations by artists such as Edward Hald, Eva Englund, Bertil Vallien, Jan Johansson, and Mona Morales-Schildt.
