Stockholms Auktionsverk Helsinki presents the long-awaited catalog for this spring's Moderna! And it has been well worth the wait as it is teeming with treasures in both the art and design departments. A fine little collection of early works by Lars-Gunnar Nordström is truly worth noting. His painting Woman with Red Hair has every chance of surpassing the starting price by a good margin. Alongside Nordström, works by other artists such as Anitra Lucander, Unto Koistinen, Olavi Vaarula, and Eino Ruutsalo are also offered. Crowning the section is a vibrant, hypnotic sunset by Reidar Särestöniemi.
Furthermore, the design selection is traditionally strong. Alvar Aalto is, of course, represented by several models, and if you're looking for something truly unique, perhaps his birch medicine cabinet is just what you're after. Also, don't miss Birger Kaipiainen's almost divine pearl bird, his godwit to hang on the wall, or Pablo Picasso's rich ceramic bowl. And what would a Finnish quality auction be without exclusive fixtures by Paavo Tynell or glassware by Kaj Franck? Naturally, both are included. In addition to the aforementioned gems, the auction also features a crisply high-class still life by Tove Jansson, a sports cabin sofa by Axel Einar Hjorth, and two Egg chairs in black leather by Arne Jacobsen.
