A color enthusiast, a nature enthusiast, a "painter's painter" with death almost always present in his canvases. There is much to say about Hans Wigert, and much has been written. His uncompromising style with sharp lines, rugged color schemes, often featuring large heads, in what some would call a kind of "romantic-expressionist style," is now an integral part of modern Swedish painting—and especially within modern Swedish graphics.
It all began almost exactly 90 years ago when Hans Wigert was born as the son of a flying major and a ballet teacher. Due to dyslexia, school was a struggle for him, so he turned to both sports and the more artistic field. His interest in the latter led him to enroll at Konstfackskolan (University of Arts, Crafts, and Design) before embarking on his own to study in Europe. Back in Sweden, he studied under artists like Staffan Hallström, Bror Marklund, and Evert Lundquist. In 1965, he exhibited together with Torsten Renqvist at the De ungas salong (Salon of the Young), and this was followed by exhibitions at venues such as the National Museum and Liljevalchs.
At Auktionsmagasinet Vänersborg, we encounter Hans Wigert as both a painter and a graphic artist. The theme is dominated by his expressive drypoint etchings, but it also includes three larger paintings from the 1990s, among which the work "Tjugondag Knut" stands out in particular. In total, there are 21 lots, including some items with exhibition catalogs and writings.
Welcome to Auktionsmagasinet Vänersborg and the theme of Hans Wigert!
