Crafoord Auctions is pleased to present a collection of paintings by artist Pär Lindblad (Arbrå 1907-1981 Gävle).
Lindblad belongs to the group of painters who were deeply appreciated in their time but, for some reason, later fell out of the spotlight.
Lindblad's career as a painter began in his thirties. He initially worked as a musician and photographer before his interest in painting took over. After self-studies in Sweden and abroad, he made his debut in the early 1940s and achieved great success at Galerie Moderne in Stockholm in 1944. Numerous exhibitions followed throughout Sweden. Thanks to his breakthrough exhibition, he was recognized as a sensitive colorist and enjoyed a highly successful career.
Lindblad often depicted desolate landscapes or solitary figures, often in a delicate blue-green tone. Parallels can be drawn to other artists, and had he been from Gothenburg, he would surely have been associated with the Gothenburg Colorists, such as Åke Göransson and Nils Nilsson.
Lindblad is represented in collections including the National Museum, Moderna Museet, Länsmuseet Gävleborg, and Västerås Museum.
In 1972 and 1973, he received the Royal Academy's major scholarship, in 1974 the Gävleborg Art Association's scholarship, and in 1976 the Cultural Prize of Gävle Municipality.
