It was in the mid-1930s, when Franz Goebel of W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik first encountered the illustrations of Maria Innocentia Hummel, that the idea was born. The sweet, endearing children seemed perfectly suited to adorn bookshelves, bedside tables, and windowsills—and he was right. In a short time, Hummel figurines became immensely popular and soon began to attract collectors. And now, as Skånes Auktionsverk puts it—Hummelmania!
Seventy-eight lots—and many more figurines—are presented within a single theme. They appear here in every imaginable form: musicians, a pair of bakers, a telephone operator, numerous playmates, a newspaper reader, a photographer, and the list goes on. For Hummel enthusiasts, this is a true feast. The auction offers an excellent opportunity to decorate your home, expand a collection, or perhaps begin a new one.
