Her richly saturated landscapes are today an integral part of modern Swedish art history. But it was not always so, and when she was admitted to the Sävsjö Sanatorium in the spring of 1930, few could have foretold her future. At that time, she was studying at Otte Sköld’s painting school, but due to difficult-to-manage tuberculosis, she was periodically hospitalized. Before the outbreak of the Second World War, however, she managed a journey through Europe that took her to Italy and France. In 1938 she exhibited at the Svensk-Franska Konstgalleriet, and three years later she held her first solo exhibition at Galleri Färg och Form in Stockholm.
Crafoord Auktioner Malmö now presents seven of her landscapes for us to enjoy. Each is an unmistakable work by Vera Frisén, rendered in those color harmonies she seems almost uniquely alone in throughout the history of art.
