Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802-1873) was a renowned British painter and sculptor, best known for his artworks depicting animals, particularly dogs and horses. He was born on March 7, 1802, in London, England, into a family of artists. Landseer showed exceptional artistic talent from a young age and received formal training in art at the Royal Academy of Arts.

Landseer gained early recognition for his ability to capture the naturalistic and expressive qualities of animals in his works. His attention to detail and ability to convey the personalities and emotions of his animal subjects set him apart as a prominent artist of his time. He often depicted animals in human-like poses and situations, which contributed to his popularity and appeal.

One of Landseer's most famous works is "The Monarch of the Glen," a painting completed in 1851.
