In Uppsala Auktionskammare's catalogue Nordic Living, we are presented with applied arts of restrained proportions, well-balanced design and a few glimpses of that light which, at our latitudes, carries with it something almost magical.
A pair of chairs in disciplined salon style by Nordiska Kompaniet's chief architect Axel Einar Hjorth stand placed before a wall of etchings by Anders Zorn and drypoint engravings by Stig Borglind. A vase bearing all the hallmarks of Functionalism stands gleaming alongside. It was designed by Jerk Werkmäster who, in his time, was artistic director of several more or less well-known exhibitions. And then there is a crisp crispbread by Hertha Hillfon, a covered urn of unusual form by Edgar Böckman, paintings by Edvin Ollers, a pair of volumes on pomology, Danish cabinetry and a tranquil archipelago scene by Åke Nothberg.
The catalogue comprises just over 130 lots, hand-picked by the auction house's specialists.
