It is with genuine pleasure that Crafoord Stockholm presents a collection of works by the Polish-Swedish artist Michal Paryzski, who to some viewers may well appear to be the new black.
Paryzski was born in Poland but worked in Sweden from 1977 onward. The scope of his artistic practice was remarkable. In addition to paintings, drawings, and collages, he created spatial installations, objects, and poetry—sometimes overlapping and complementing one another.
Michal Paryzski was a constructivist who worked with great precision and highly analytical processes. His art was grounded in rhythm and automatic notation that took on abstract forms. Above all, the concept of “accumulating black” became his signature, as he rigorously explored the colour black in both paintings and installations—with fascinating results, not least on high-mounted plexiglass panels.
Paryzski served as a mentor to many contemporary artists and took part in nearly 100 exhibitions, both solo and group shows, in Sweden, Poland, and various international contexts. His works are represented in numerous private and public collections in both countries. Put simply—but aptly—Michal Paryzski was a master of black art.
Welcome!
