Design Sale XII – Pierre Forssell is, as the title suggests, a slightly different affair. This time, Crafoord Auktioner Stockholm is proud to present an exceptionally fine collection of objects designed by none other than Pierre Forssell. A designer who needs little introduction, many of Forssell’s brass creations have become iconic in the history of Swedish design. Some are even considered rare treasures. This curated spotlight focuses on precisely those: uniques and hard-to-find pieces.
The provenance could not be better. In 1981, Ingegerd Högström was employed at Skultuna’s brass studio. Initially responsible for bookkeeping and administration – and known for her home-baked treats – she gradually developed an eye for collecting, particularly the more elusive designs. This opportunity may not come again.
In terms of numbers, the Forssell selection represents only a fraction of the auction, which comprises over 260 lots of exceptional design. Just a few highlights: the cactus glass by Hilton McConnico, a true desert delight on a hot summer’s day; a pair of high-backed rattan armchairs by Gio Ponti; and a striking serving tray by Piero Fornasetti.
Add to that ceramics from Gustavsberg and Rörstrand, an impressive vase by Hugo Elmqvist, rustic cabin furniture from NK, a Muslinge armchair, and even a pair of headboards from the Swedish Embassy in Washington, D.C., and you’ll begin to grasp the scope of Design Sale XII – Pierre Forssell.
