As the light streams into the halls of Auktionshuset Kolonn on an early spring day in late March, it refracts through tens of thousands of prisms from the magnificent pieces displayed in the showcases. The light passes through an early graal by Simon Gate, adorned with a lilac-brown pattern so characteristic of the technique’s early years. It also catches the colorful stem of Gunnar Cyrén’s pop glass, glides into the hull of a Vallien boat, and struggles to find its way through the yellow-and-black surface of Paul Hoff’s bird dish.
And just look at Hertha Bengtsson’s strawberry-colored vase in red and green – isn’t that an unexpected burst of color for the sun’s rays to shine through on an early spring day at Auktionshuset Kolonn?
