Unni Askeland - From Basquiat to Warhol

Crafoord Auctions Stockholm presents a collection of graphic works by the Norwegian artist Unni Askeland (born in Bergen 1962).
The art project BIG BIG BIG from 2011 consists of a total of 26 pop-art interpretations with famous quotes, divided into 13 iconic women and 13 men. Crafoord Auctions now showcases 19 motifs from this series, including Greta Garbo, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Madonna, Bob Dylan, Elvis, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
Askeland has been educated at institutions such as the National Academy of Fine Arts in Oslo under the guidance of Per Kleiva and the Vestlandets Academy of Art in Bergen. Her artistic world is drawn from the pop-art genre and popular culture. She gained special attention in 2004 with the series "Munchadopsjoner," where she reworked motifs by the artist Edvard Munch.
Askeland has exhibited and been shown internationally in cities such as Amsterdam, Gothenburg, Copenhagen, and New York. She is represented in the National Museum of Norway. Askeland currently resides and works in Oslo and has four children with the American singer and songwriter Eric Andersen (1943).
