Carl Wilhelm Scheele, an outstanding chemist of the 18th century, must have been amazed when his silver salts darkened upon exposure to light. What he surely did not know was the significance of this discovery for photography. While his name is occasionally mentioned in the history of the camera, more often than not it is the Frenchman Louis Jacques Mandé Daguerre who, in the mid-19th century, succeeded in freezing time on a piece of copper plate. Following them, a long list of names can be mentioned - researchers, scientists, and enthusiasts who have all more or less contributed to the technology underlying the items in Ekenbergs Auktioners theme Cameras. Here, the selection is mixed, with bellows cameras alongside film cameras, filters, and accessories. Some elegant studio cameras with many years of history lend a certain elegance to the theme and stand in stark contrast to the small underwater camera from Canon. Say cheese!
