How should a Stockholms Auktionsverk catalogue open, if not with a bang?
Just look at Erik Tryggelin's portrait, dated 23 March 1904. And from there it keeps rolling with the underwater-toned vase by Axel Enoch Boman, the Vera Frisén paintings, Michele de Lucchi's postmodern candy-piece table, and Alfred Helberger's polar bears. And that's just 20 lots into a wonderful mix of selected art and design, interspersed with antiques carrying plenty of that little something extra.
Classic older painting is thus mixed with Toni Cordero's "Reggenza" chair. Gunnar Wennerberg's sun-yellow jardinière - a beauty barely 60 cm long, adorned with blooming Art Nouveau tulips - is displayed alongside a work by Vilém Kreibich, and the Theselius armchairs in aluminum share space with two refreshed gilded Baroque frames. Perhaps the most delicate of all is the collection of Vicken von Post's Rörstrand figurines. They form part of the auction too, along with Edward Wiiralt's etchings, the flamboyant Medusa dinner service, sculptures by Torsten Renqvist, and Van Thô's expressive self-portraits.
