What is resale right?

Resale right is also known as droit de suite.

By European law (EG directive 2001/84/EG), a resale fee applies when selling certain works of art onward. The fee retributes the author or his heirs for 70 years after his death.

The fee is calculated from the hammer price and paid through the invoice.

The fee amounts to 5% of the hammered price or lower and is calculated in an almost identical way in all countries. If you would like to read more about this:

If this fee applies, the item page will automatically inform you about it.
