Contemporary full sheep, raised bands. 10 folding engraved plates as issued, illustrating mathematical and navigational instruments, charts, and tables. The work provides a comprehensive introduction to the mathematical and practical elements of navigation, including geometry, globes, traverse tables, and logarithms, here revised and corrected by W. Mountaine.

Provenance: With a contemporary Latin inscription on the front flyleaf: “Ex libris Thomae Lloyd, qui Artium Mathematicarum studiosus inscripsit, Augusti die primo, 1758, octavo. Roberto Chiffinch, Praeceptore.” (“From the library of Thomas Lloyd, student of the mathematical arts, inscribed 1 August 1758 … Robert Chiffinch, his tutor.”). A rare, dated ownership inscription directly linking this copy to mathematical and navigational instruction at the time of publication.

Binding rubbed and worn, joints cracked but holding; corners bumped. Internally, some light spotting and toning, all folding plates present and in sound state. Not collated.
