Details

Lars Lerin – Part II

Stockholms Auktionsverk is proud to present additional works from Kenneth Wahlström's extensive art collection. In spring 2024, 70 pieces by Lars Lerin went under the hammer, and now another 60 or so works by the renowned watercolor artist will be showcased.
This collection takes us on a journey through Lerin's home region, where early oil paintings depict scenes from his youth, such as chopping wood, sipping coffee with a cat on his lap, or haymaking on a warm day, all portrayed with great affection. The surrounding landscapes of Värmland are vividly brought to life, with watercolor scenes of snow-covered rooftops and barren clear-cuts.

Lerin's global travels are also represented, particularly the blue-gray tones of Lofoten, capturing its dramatic beauty, as well as scenes from the heat of Cairo. Regardless of the subject, Lerin's work is distinguished by his ability to capture the essence of a place, filling each piece with a deep sense of presence and emotion, with a recurring theme of melancholy running through his creations.

Beyond his paintings, Lars Lerin holds a unique position in Swedish art, with his artistry extending into books where his watercolors and woodcuts are accompanied by poems, travelogues, and stories. A number of these books are included in the auction.

Kenneth Wahlström, a well-known business figure in Karlstad, was a dedicated art collector. His collection included hundreds of works by various artists, such as glass art by Kjell Engman and delicate nature paintings by Anna Gardell-Ericson, but it is especially noteworthy for its impressive collection of Lars Lerin's works.

The public is invited to explore and enjoy this rich array of works by one of Sweden's most beloved artists.
