Oil on canvas, 24 x 33.5 cm. Signed Frisén.
Vera Frisén (1910-1990) was the artist from Umeå who was predicted to have a brilliant future, but who, due to a lung disease, chose a life outside the art establishment. Frisén was above all a plein air painter and depicted with a reverent gaze and coloristic sensitivity the views of the Norrland landscape over marshes, meadows and valleys. Frisén also made many portraits which, like her landscapes, are painted in a fine-tuned color scale. They lack personal attributes, which means they can be interpreted as universal.
In 1941, Frisén was persuaded to exhibit his art in a separate exhibition at Galleri Färg och Form in Stockholm, which was a great success. After this, she withdrew with the exception of occasional group exhibitions until a new solo exhibition in 1989, the year before she passed away. In recent years, interest in her art has increased exponentially.
