The versatile chair maker Erik Öhrmark is an interesting phenomenon, as he managed to follow the fashion from Rococo, to Gustavian, late Gustavian and up to the idiom of the nascent Empire. Öhrmark was evidently a pliant nature and was able to adapt excellently to the changes of form over four decades. The success of his workshop is demonstrated not least by the many commissions for royal interiors that Öhrmark delivered, where the quality requirements were high in both execution and design.

Öhrmark carried out several significant commissions for the brothers Jean Baptiste and Louis Masreliez, which is clear evidence that he belonged to the absolute top layer of chair makers during the late Gustavian epoch. His famous sulla chairs in Gustav III's pavilion at Haga, designed by Louis Masreliez, are a clear expression of his mastery.
