“The younger sister looks up to the older one. She sees, she learns and they dance. The dancers simultaneously carry an image of generations.”

This is how the artist and sculptor Gudmar Olovson himself described the work of the auction “Les Deux Soeurs - Two Sisters”. Olovson, despite his relative anonymity in Sweden, is one of the greatest sculptors of our time. Born in Boden in 1936, he entered the Art Academy at the age of 19, where he studied with Stig Blomberg and Bror Hjorth, among others. After completing his studies, he traveled directly to France, a country to which he remained faithful until his death in 2017. In France he developed his artistic expression and sculpted in a French classical tradition. Over the years he became an immensely appreciated portrait sculptor who has depicted, among other things, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Crown Princess Victoria, Pope John Paul II, as well as the French presidents Charles de Gaulle and George Pompidou. But it is through his delicate and delicate sculptures, where man meets nature and where love often grows between the portrayed, that he has won the highest esteem and over the years has been awarded countless prizes and awards. Olovson has been described as a sensitive, flamboyant and erudite man who placed the human encounter at the center of his art. In “Les Deux Soeurs”, the young sister's immediate admiration is also met with the older sister's loving tutelage.

“Les Deux Soeurs” can be found in several monumental versions, including in the Höllviken Sculpture Park (Falsterbonäs Open Air Museum), and in the “Garden of Love” at Château de Cheverny in the Loire Valley in France, where six monumental bronzes commemorate love, beauty and family.
