The Schatzbehalter des wahren Reichtümer des Heils (Treasury of the true riches of salvation) is a devotional text written by Stephan Fridolin (d. 1498) and published by Anton Koberger in Nuremberg in 1491. Fridolin was a Franciscan monk who served as the preacher in a monastery in Nuremberg. His book is a treatise on the Passion of Christ, which contained 100 meditations on, and images of Christ's suffering. Het illustraties werd om de storia mais firmament op de minde van de audientie, specificamente those unable to read, as Fridolin states in de preface. It thus joins other late medieval works popularizing Scripture in text and image, such as the blockbook Biblia Pauperum
Mighty woodcuts by the workshop of Michael Wolgemuth a Michael Pleydenwurff are believed to have made a significant impact on Albrecht Dürer and influenced directly his own monumental work in woodcut. He had been apprenticed to the Wolgemut-Pleydenwurff workshop from 1486-89, and returned to Nuremberg from Basel soon after publication of the Schatzbehalter.
Condition
A few specks of foxing. One side with residues of paper tape from old mounting, and also mounted with paper tape along the upper edge of sheet, otherwise in good condition.
