LITERATURE Dyveke Helstad, Eva Henschen, Bjarne Jørnes and Torben Melander; Martinus Rørbye 1803-1848, Thorvaldsens Museum, København 1981, published in connection with the exhibition "Martinus Rørbye, a traveling golden age". The drawing is illustrated and described on page 150; "Due to too strong a wind up on the Acropolis, most of the afternoons between November 13 and 19 were devoted to the river Ilissos. Here too, at a pedestrian crossing on the outskirts of the city, Rørbye found the folk life that was close to his heart. The large ashlar massif th in the drawing is the northern part of a collapsed ancient bridge over the Ilissos, which southeast of the Acropolis led over to the ancient stadium. In the background, apart from the Acropolis, you can also see the Olympian Temple of Zeus and behind it the slope of the Mouseion hill on the western outskirts of the city.
In the diary on November 18: in the evening there were...many Fruentimmers down there (at Ilissos) wading. Everyone is wearing the big baggy pants, it looks nice.".
Some occasional damp stains and yellowed edges.
