Books, Maps, Manuscripts & Photography

Welcome to our Spring Books, Maps, Manuscripts and Photography Sale offering a fine selection of antiquarian books and later work.

We are delighted to be offering an extensive and previously unrecorded archive of items relating to the great Victorian showman, author, and entrepreneur Albert Smith (1816-60). The scrolling diorama with scenes from the Alpine Rooms in the Egyptian Hall where he told his tales of climbing Mont Blanc that became such a feature of mid-Victorian society, must be one of the gems in the collection.

Unless listed in the Catalogue as 'not subject to return' or 'with all faults' (w.a.f.), printed books which are found to be defective in pages or illustrations (provided these have not already been noted in the catalogue) may be returned by the purchaser and the sale set aside within 14 days as at the time of the sale.

The above condition of sale shall apply only to text and illustrations.

No book shall be returned, neither can the sale be set aside, because of damage to bindings, inscriptions, worm holes not materially damaging the text, foxing or other stains, missing or defective blank leaves or advertisements; nor for any question of authorship or such disputative matters as first edition 'points'. No unnamed volume may be returned.
