Gustaf Henrik von Müllern (1664-1719) was a Swedish official, Chancellor of the Exchequer 1710-1714. Von Müllern belonged to the chancellery staff that was with Charles XII in the field, was promoted in 1708 to chancellor councilor and state secretary for foreign affairs, and after the battle of Poltava (1709) managed the royal exchange of letters in place of the prisoner Carl Piper. In 1710 he was appointed chancellor and baron. During Karl XII's stay in Turkey, von Müllern's activities were of great importance, in that he was in charge of the foreign policy expeditions and appeared as the main body for the king's will in this regard. At the calabash in Bender (1713) he was captured, but was the first to be released, and was in Demotika one of the few with whom Charles XII surrounded himself. When the chancellery was reorganized in 1714, he became a representative in the First Foreign Expedition. He left Turkey at the same time as the king (October 1714), but only came to Stralsund at the beginning of 1715. There he was one of those who, through his performances, persuaded the king to complete the journey home to Sweden, while there was still an opportunity. From this time, however, Karl XII increasingly gave his trust to Georg Heinrich von Goertz and soon von Müllern did not even have the same significant position with Karl XII as before. von Müllern personally, however, had a good relationship with Goertz. At the peace negotiations in 1718, von Müllern proved more inclined to make peace with King George of Great Britain, while Goertz preferred peace with Russia. Goertz even believed that it was von Müllern, who bore the main blame for the king's negative answer regarding the peace with Russia, which Goertz, however, did not consider definitive.
