Description

Pufendorf, Samuel, German historian & Swedish baron, (1632-1694). De Rebus a Carolo Gustavo Sveciæ Rege Gestis commentariorum libri septem. Elegantissimis Tabulis æneis exornati cum triplici Indice. Sumptibus Chrisophori Riegelii, Nuremberg, 1696. Folio in a contemporary vellum binding with blue cut. Illustrated with 11 (of 12) engraved portraits and 115 (of 115) double-sided copper engravings of battle plans, ceremonies, maps and with the more than 4 meter long funeral tablet loosely attached in roll..) (X), Engraved vignettes and cul de lamps and some engraved coin depictions in the text. (X), 626 p. , 53 p. , (XI)+ copper stick.
Strangely enough, this great work was first published in Swedish in 1915 under the title Sju böcker om Kung Carl X Gustafs bragder. Translated by Adolf Hillman.
Provenance. The Wrangel von Brehmer family with bookplate.

Condition

The binding is heavily stained and sunken with wear in the binding folds, but well held together. The front blank cover page is missing. Mostly clean insert with only occasional stains. A few boards loose and the large Copenhagen board partly loose with large tears and folds. A few plates with frayed and discolored outer margins outside the image and a couple of plates with paper loss in the outer margins outside the image. Sharp deductions. Please note that the more than 4 meter long burial plaque has appeared and is included separately in a roll.
