Stig Kjellin was a Swedish painter born in Borås in 1914. He studied at Tekniska skolan (now Konstfack) in Stockholm from 1934 to 1936 and later travelled for self-study in Switzerland and Spain. Kjellin is known for his coastal scenes, florals, gatumotiv and cityscapes, often rendered with a calm, modernist clarity.

Landscapes, Florals and Daily Life
His paintings include coastal labourers, harbour settings and still lifes of flowers and urban interiors. The compositions are structured yet calm, combining careful arrangement with a restrained palette. His city scenes include views from Sweden, Italy and Spain, reflecting his European travels.
Exhibitions and Collections
Kjellin exhibited regularly from the 1940s onward, with solo shows including Borås konsthall in 1943 (with Eric Larsson), Gummesons konsthall, Malmö rådhus and Lorensbergs konstsalong. He participated in exhibitions such as “Modern konst i hemmiljö” and was represented in Borås stadshus and Borås konstförenings samling.

Art Market and Legacy
From mid-century to present, Kjellin’s works consistently appear at auction—coastal scenes and florals being particularly popular. Prices range from a few hundred to around 400 USD. While he remains a regional figure, his refined modernist compositions continue to attract collectors.
