Biography

August Lundberg was a Swedish painter born in Stockholm in 1882. He studied at the Swedish Tekniska skolan and later at Konstnärsförbundets tredje skola between 1905 and 1908. He then travelled in France and Corsica, where he encountered Expressionist and modernist influences. His work is known for stylised landscapes, still lifes and town scenes, characterised by serene mood and calculated use of light.

Meditative Realism and Minimalist Form

Lundberg’s paintings often feature simplified colour planes and a calm, intimate realism. He was associated with the group De unga, which introduced early modernism to Sweden. Over time he remained somewhat apart from exhibition life, showing his work occasionally but maintaining a steady, modest presence.
