Cox began his career as a theatrical scene painter, but he soon turned his attention to landscape painting. He was a self-taught artist who travelled extensively throughout England and Wales, studying the natural beauty of the landscape and painting it with great skill and sensitivity.

Cox's paintings are characterized by their luminous quality, achieved through his use of light and colour. He was especially skilled at capturing the effects of sunlight and atmospheric conditions in his work.

Primarily in Watercolours

Although he primarily worked in watercolours, Cox also painted in oils, and his works are highly sought after by collectors today. He was also a respected teacher, and his influence can be seen in the work of many later landscape painters.

Cox's art was highly regarded in his lifetime, and he exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy in London. He was also a member of the Society of Painters in Water Colours and the New Water Colour Society.

Today, Cox's paintings can be found in many major art museums, including the Tate Gallery in London, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. His legacy as one of England's great landscape painters continues to be celebrated and admired by art lovers around the world.
