Biography

Stan Wys, born Stanislaw Wysocki in 1949 in Elk, Belarus, endured a challenging childhood marked by personal and political turmoil. In 1968, he began studies at a sports academy in Wroclaw, Poland, a city then characterised by its post-war ruins, which attracted numerous artists. This environment sparked his interest in art, leading him to explore painting and sculpture. He later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan and apprenticed under sculptor Henry Moore and Professor J.H. Lonas at the Berlin University of the Arts.

Sensuous Bronze Sculptures and Public Recognition

Wys is renowned for his bronze sculptures depicting the female form with a blend of sensuality and abstraction. His works often feature torsos without heads or limbs, emphasising form and movement. Notable pieces include "A Flood Victim," inspired by the 1997 Wroclaw flood, which was later presented to Pope John Paul II and now resides in the Vatican's art collection. Wys's sculptures have been exhibited across Europe and are held in various public and private collections.
