Provenance: LARS SJÖSTEN (1941-2011), Swedish jazz musician. During the 1960s, Sjösten often played at the restaurant Gyllene Cirkeln in Stockholm. He played with international greats such as Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Art Farmer and Stan Getz, as well as with the Swedish tenor saxophonist Bernt Rosengren.
Sjösten was also a pianist in the groups of the Swedish baritone saxophonist and composer Lars Gullin. He became good friends with Gullin; this collaboration came to mean everything for Sjösten's own music making. In 1969, Lars Sjösten was the first musician to be awarded the Jan Johansson scholarship. In 1997, Sjösten received the newly established Lars Gullin Prize, and in 2006 he received the Christer Boustedt scholarship. Over the years, Lars Sjösten led a number of his own groups. He made many recordings and received both public acclaim and state support. His touring took him to such diverse metropolises as Paris, Moscow, Vittoria da Praia (the Azores) and Emmaboda.
