Description
After felling, the logs at the sawn edge were marked with a unique numerical code for the owner of the timber. The lumberjack twisted the digit rings, pressed the combination onto an ink pad, and then hit the cut surface of the log with the tool. Depending on the region, this tool is known by the following names: number hammer, number hammer, numbering club, number hammer, board hammer, forester artoquotte.
