Second World War Japanese Army Officer's Shin Gunto, medium to high grade Gendaito, curved steel blade signed to nakago (tang), Hamon ko gunome with ashi and shoji midare, light brown cloth Ito, one mekugi, regulation copper mounts, held in leather covered wooden field scabbard (saya) with one suspension ring, most WW2 period Japanese officers and NCOs swords were mass produced, machine made with a few hand made but not using traditional methods, there were even fewer, like this sword, made by smiths using the traditional methods, these included Yasukuni Shrine smiths, those of the Gassan School, and Chounsai Emura as well as Ichihara Nagamitsu, blade length 62 cm

Condition

Good overall condition with some wear commensurate with age and use, fuchi (collar) missing from between the tsuba (hanguard) and ito (wrap) but could be relatively easily replaced, unfortunately, very tip of blade broken off.
