Interior with reading woman and tulips. Signed and dated E.W.35 and indistinct Elisabeth Weixlgärtner. 86 x 86 cm.

Elizabeth Weixlgärtner-Söderberg was born in 1912 in Vienna as the daughter of museum director Arpad Weixlgärtner and artist Pepi Weixlgärtner-Neutra. From a young age she received tutoring in painting and drawing at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna between 1927-1932. Weixlgärtner-Söderberg's mother was of Jewish descent and after Germany's annexation of Austria in 1938, she went to Sweden where she later married the composer Karl Söderberg in 1942.
