Armchair with backrest. Frame in solid, stained/lacquered beech wood. Original cushions upholstered with striped textile.
Probably designed by Søren Hansen and executed by Fritz Hansen in the 1940s.
Height: 84 cm. Seat height (front): 41 cm. Width: 67 cm. Depth: 77 cm.
Søren Hansen was the grandson of Fritz Hansen, who founded the company of the same name in 1872. He entered carpentry 1921-25 and received trade and trade training in France and Sweden 1925-28. From this point on, Søren Hansen contributed decisively to Fritz Hansen's development as a modern furniture maker and designed several pieces of furniture himself, especially in moulded plywood. Later he collaborated with Danish furniture architects such as Peter Hvidd and Orla Mølgaard-Nielsen, Arne Jacobsen, Hans J. Wegner, Jørn Utzon and Børge Mogensen, whose works helped establish Danish Design as a concept abroad and put Fritz Hansen A/S on the world map.
Condition
Age and wear and tear in the form of scratches and marks. Superficial crack where one armrest meets the back (see detail photo).
