Description

Franz Michael Regenfus (1712-1780), 5 hand-colored copper engravings from: Collection of mussels, snails and other shellfish Recueil de Coquillages, de Limaçons et de Crustacés. Copenhagen 1758, 4 sheets in the lower margin with the engraved signature and name, all in the upper right corner with engraved sheet number, contain plates II, VII, VIII, XI and XII. Each approx. 41.5 x 28 cm, each framed behind passe-partout and glass, with frame approx. 53 x 43 cm

The artist, engraver, art dealer, writer and naturalist Franz Michael Regenfus worked as an engraver for the Danish king. His most famous work was the 'Selection of Shellfish and Crustaceans' published in 1758 in a bilingual French-German version. For this purpose, he produced twelve plates, the fine coloring of which was originally adopted by his wife Margaretha Helena, G. Müller and Johann M. Leyh.
