Lothar Fischer is one of the most important sculptors of the post-war period. He studied at the Academy in Munich and, together with his fellow students Heimrad Prem, Helmut Sturm and Hans Peter Zimmer, founded the artist group SPUR in 1957. In 1964, Lothar Fischer was a participant in documenta III in Kassel. From 1975 to 1997 he taught as a professor at the University of Arts in Berlin.
