Olle Bonniér, actually Norman Olof Ivar Nygren-Bonnier (1925-2016), was a prominent Swedish painter, graphic artist and sculptor. He was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Sweden after his family returned there when he was five years old. Bonniér showed an early interest in art and decided in his teens to become an artist.
He studied art at the Technical School and later at Isaac Grünewald's School of Painting in Stockholm. During this period he was influenced by various art styles, including Cubism and Surrealism, as well as artists such as Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
Bonniér's artistry evolved over the years. He began with abstract and geometric painting, but later shifted to more poetic and nonfigurative expressions that associated with sound and light. He also experimented with light experiments in collaboration with space physicist Lars Block and created the audiovisual artwork “Minos Palats”.
During the 1940s and 1950s, Bonniér was part of a group of artists in Stockholm that became known as “1947 år menn”. The group was known for its concrete art style and participated in exhibitions that helped popularize the new artistic movement in Sweden.
Bonniér also executed public artworks, including monumental paintings for Svenska Bostäder's office building in Vällingby and Astra in Södertälje. His art is represented in several significant Swedish art museums.
Over the years Bonniér experimented with different styles and modes of expression, and his artwork ranged from abstract to more poetic and figurative expressions. He was a versatile artist who contributed to the Swedish art scene with his unique contribution.
