South India mid-19th century, plastically carved, remains of the colored original version, central depiction of Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Vishnu with rich body decorations and a knot of hair decorated with peacock feathers, he holds his flute in his right hand, the left encloses a bulbous vessel that is handed to him by the young woman (probably Kubja) kneeling at his feet, surrounded by a decorated archway with a Simhamukha finish (magical lion mask as a symbol for sun, time and death) and a simple rectangular base, H./W.ca.122/75cm.
