
Walther Tanck (1894-1954), Lindenallee im Hirschpark, oil on canvas, 1921, signed and dated, ca. 60 x 50 cm, with frame approx. 68 x 58 cm.
Tanck studied with the Hamburg painter Franz Nölken from 1911-12. He went on study trips to Italy and France and took part in exhibitions organized by the Hamburg Secession. In 1920 Galerie Alfred Flechtheim showed Tanck's paintings, later he sold through the Commeter Gallery in Hamburg. In 1929/30, Tanck was commissioned to paint the meeting room in the Old Town Hall with Hamburg landscapes. During National Socialism, his works were considered “degenerate.”
PROVENANCE: Hamburg family property, formerly received directly from the artist.
