4067104. ISAAC GRÜNEWALD. OIL ON CANVAS, FLOWERING FRUIT TREES, SIGNED AND DATED 1943.

Description

An oil sketch of the present painting with the same motif in a smaller version appears in “The Blossoming Fruit Tree”, which was sold by Stockholms auktionsverk on October 28, 2010, Lot 1140. Similar in terms of colour scale is the painting “foliage in spring” from 1941, which was sold by Stockholms auktionsverk on 10 November 2017, Lot 452.
The motif is likely from Kungsträdgården or Berzelii park, where the iconic painting “The Singing Tree” was also painted in 1915.
The early painting with flowering fruit trees that preceded “The Singing Tree” and which relates to the drawing on p. 123 in Liljevalch's exhibition “The Singing Tree”, and there called Alvastra, is however from Gränna where the couple Grünewald/Hjertén rented a cottage in 1913.
Image dimensions 54 X 65 cm
Frame dimensions 71 X 82 cm.
