HISTORIAN:
Signe Maria Grönberger, born 30 March 1881 in Stockholm, Sweden, died 1969, was a Swedish painter and graphic artist.
She was the daughter of the chamberlain Ludvig Grönberger and Anne Wiberg. Grönberger studied at the Althins School of Painting in Stockholm 1900-1901 and at the Art Academy in Stockholm 1901-1908, as well as during study trips to the Netherlands, Belgium and Paris where she had the opportunity to study with the Spanish artist Claudio Castelucho. She appeared sporadically in a few exhibitions at Strömsholmen in Eskilstuna in 1919 and at Gummesons konsthall in 1924 before conducting a larger solo exhibition in Södertälje in 1947. She also participated in the Swedish Artists Association's exhibition at the Baltic Exhibition in Malmö in 1914 and in a group exhibition with Anders Wissler and Ingeborg Åkerman at the Artists' House in Stockholm, and with Torgny Dufwa at the Sörmland Museum of Cultural History in Södertälje. Together with Gunnar Notini, Thure Wallner and Torgny Dufwa, she was the initiator of the formation of the Södertälje Art Association and these four artists exhibited together in the seaside resort villa Kristiansborg in the 1940s, a memorial exhibition featuring their art was shown at the Old Town Hall in Södertälje. Her art consists of religious compositions, interiors and portraits, among others, of the minister's daughter Wang Tsang Pao and Robert Anberg. Grönberger is represented at the Trelleborg Museum [with four paintings and eight woodcuts.
