Red thick silk, snib collar, three-quarter arm and two hidden pockets. Fully lined in light grey silk, labelled “Märthaskolans Franska Avdeling STOCKHOLM”. Lacks size. back length approx. 103 cm, arm length inner 31 cm
Märthaskolan was a Swedish fashion house and sewing school, founded by Countess Marg von Schwerin and active between 1927-1975. The school was named after Princess Märtha, who had a keen interest in fashion and who made her name subject to full transparency in the activities.
As a fashion house, it specialized in high class women's fashion and is one of the few manufacturers of couture in Swedish fashion history. Märthaskolan had close connections with French fashion houses such as Dior, Chanel and Balenciaga and the school's French department sewed garments according to original designs from Paris.
The school was discontinued in 1975 when exclusive clothing became outcompeted by the clothing industry. It is with great pleasure that we can present a small selection from the school's production.
Age-related wear but in good vintage condition.
