The sculpture probably represents Guan Ping, a Chinese general during the early 200s. He fought alongside Guan Yu and Zhou Cang - a legendary trio of warriors who were elevated to deities during the Sui Dynasty. In temples and on altars, Guan Ping is often seen in sculpture groups of three warriors, of which this sculpture must have been an integral part.
On a later plinth of sculpted wood, probably of 20th century manufacture.
