387589. SPINDLE CLOCK, silver, Wallerius Norrköping, second half of the 18th century.
Description
Dial and movement marked "Wallerius Norrköping", diameter 58 mm, weight 135 grams. Watch chain and key, silver, length 30 cm, weight 24 grams.
The pocket watch is probably a forgery from the 18th century. During the second half of the 18th century, clockmakers in Geneva and the surrounding area produced a very large number of spider clocks of strong seconds quality. These were provided with signatures for watchmakers around various European countries, e.g. the signature "Wallerius in Norrköping". No such thing ever existed, these fake signatures were often misspelled. They probably meant the watchmaker Erik Wellenius b.1731 d. 1802; art caster, watchmaker and watch manufacturer in Norrköping.
