Ville a in d'Oyly's “Antiquities of Dacca”, published in 1814. (cfr. last picture). Since the central building in our painting has lost its top roof register it postdates the engraving, but the
Charles D'Oyly, strongly influenced by his friend George Chinnery, stayed in India in a number of positions until 1838, and encouraged artistic life with the “United Patna and Gaya Society”. If not by D'Oyly himself, the artist of this painting is probably found within this circle.
